The annual Vallecito Awards ceremony has moved online!  A link will be sent out very soon so you can read about the winners of the 5th grade Consistent Achiever, Peggy Fenn, and Jordana Salisbury Awards in addition to other special recognitions.  

Thank you to Ms. Baker, Ms. McKeon, Ms. Sims, Ms. Hassan, and Ms. Lai for reimaging how to celebrate our honorees.

 


 

 

 

Vallecito Graduation Caravan

It’s time to celebrate our 5th graders!

Did you enjoy the teacher parade?  Well, this will be even better!

Make some signs, come to the end of your driveways, and cheer on our graduating fifth graders in Vallecito's first-ever

GRADUATION CARAVAN!

 

When: June 11th 

Time: Parade begins at 9:30 am

 

Look for the Vallecito Eagle leading the way! 

 

Parade Route:

Northgate parking lot to Nova Albion, left on Golden Hinde, right on Devon, left on Esmeyer, right on Tamarack, left on Monticello, right on Las Ovejas, right on Las Colindas, right on Las Pavadas, left at Arias, right on Nova Albion, right into the Val drop off lane. 

 

Safety Guidelines

Students and families must stay in their cars at all times. The parade will finish in a decorated Val drop off lane with teachers safely assembled to cheer on the graduates.

Please email Ms. Denise at dtosti@millercreeksd.org if you are unable to come to school at your assigned day and time to make other arrangements.

 

What needs to be returned?

School Chromebooks AND power cords, textbooks, library books, 4th/5th musical instruments, and other school property.  Please place all borrowed items in a bag with your child's name AND classroom teacher clearly labeled on it. If you have more than one child, please make separate labeled bags.

 

How do I pick up my student's belongings and return borrowed items?

There will be labeled tables in front of the school.  Come to Vallecito during your assigned time and we will give you your child's belongings when you are returning borrowed materials.  The support staff will be outside ready to assist you. 

 

Safety First

  • The office and classrooms will not be open to students or families.  
  • Masks will be required when on school grounds at all times.
  • Please Maintain 6ft. distance with non-family members
  • Please save all socializing with other families or gathering with other families in a social capacity for another time.

Regular Meeting of the Board of Education: June 9th

Details can be found on the district website, including agenda, directions to access the meeting, and information on opportunities to make a public comment.  Items on this meeting's agenda include a celebration of district retirees, important budget updates, and personnel action. 


What Will School Look Like When We Return?

The Miller Creek School District is working collaboratively with county offices, surrounding districts, and stakeholder groups to design multiple scenarios that illustrate both remote and classroom learning options while adhering to the most current safety guidelines. The Marin County Office of Education has provided an informative website to guide our work:  Rethinking Schools: A Public Health Guided Return to Site-Based Instruction in the Age of COVID-19. I encourage you to check out the website for up to date information on our planning considerations.

 

Whatever form school takes next fall, know that the teachers and staff of Vallecito are dedicated to working in partnership with you to care for your children. Together we will solve the challenges of safely returning to site-based instruction. As always, I am but an email away. 


The Yearbooks Have Arrived

Vallecito 2019-2020 yearbooks have arrived and will be distributed with your child's belongings when you return to school during your designated date and time.  Online sales end TODAY! (Visit yearbookforever.com and search for Vallecito) 

If you wish to purchase a yearbook after that, please email Ms. Denise at dtosti@millercreeksd.org to make other arrangements. 


Vallecito Home and School Club 

The Vallecito Home and School Club hosted their final meeting of the year this week...virtually! It was wonderful to see so many new and returning faces. Our HSC is a dynamic organization of parent volunteers and is responsible for not only bringing important enrichment opportunities to our school, but are integral to building our sense of school community.  Plus, it is just a lot of fun!

Job descriptions of positions:
 
Back to School Night (1-2 Chairs)
Coordinate with Val afterschool clubs (Girls on the Run, Rec Re-imagined, San Rafael Aftercare, etc.), and Val committees (Scholastic Book Fair, ED&I, Community Heroes, Garden/Campus Beautification, Friday Recycling, etc.) to set up interactive table displays to distribute information and recruit new members. Purchase and deliver dinner/food for teachers in the teachers lounge prior to the presentations.
 
Campus Beautification (1-2 Chairs)
Help us maintain the beauty of our campus. We need volunteers to help pull weeds, plant flowers and improve the overall look of our school. 1-2 yearly “fund a need” parties helps with bigger on-site projects. Projects can include temporary murals/artwork, chalk drawings, etc. in addition to gardening/clean up days.
 
Can Do! Family Giving Campaign Ambassadors (Need a Co-Chair)
Can Do! is the education foundation which raises funds for the four schools in the Miller Creek School District.  Can Do! has raised over $5 million dollars in its 20+ year history.  Can Do! has a well-established record of success raising funds through the annual Family Giving Campaign, Run as One Community Fun Run, Business Partner Program, Holiday Online Auction, Annual Golf Tournament sponsored by Scotty's Market and Shop Can Do!
 
Standing Desk Coordinator (1 Chair)
Today’s sedentary lifestyles are impacting the health and academic performance of students. Increasing low-level activity, such as standing in the classroom engages students with their curriculum and gets them up and moving. Spaces that promote movement both energize and empower students, as well as encourage collaboration and boost engagement among classmates and educators. Recruit volunteers to visit each classroom to adjust each standing desk to fit each child at the beginning of the school year.
 
Fifth Grade Graduation (1-2 Chairs)
Committee to plan and oversee the 5th grade graduation ceremony and party.
 
Friday Can & Plastic Bottle Recycling (1-2 Chairs)
Vallecito makes a major effort to reduce our carbon footprint -- and raise money for the school -- by collecting recyclable materials every Friday morning! Students are excited to earn a Green Eagle Ticket by bringing aluminum cans and plastic bottles for recycling. Each Friday you will monitor the hilarious “can crushing” and sorting, distribute Green Eagle Tickets and bag up and deliver the cans and bottles to the recycling center. Recycling supports and reinforces Vallecito’s green and sustainable efforts and earns the school an extra $2,000 each year!
 
Ice Cream Social- Community/Event Table Displays (1-2 Chairs)
Let’s show our Val community all the great things we do and let them discover the multitude of activities, events and opportunities they can get involved in! Coordinate with student run clubs (student council, green team, Eagle Eyes, etc.), afterschool clubs (Girls on the Run, Rec Re-imagined, San Rafael Aftercare, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc.), and Val committees (Scholastic Book Fair, ED&I, Community Heroes, Garden/Campus Beautification, Friday Recycling, etc.) to set up interactive table displays to distribute information and recruit new members.
 
Lunchtime Recycling (1-2 Chairs)
Oversee weekly student “Green Team” volunteers for lunchtime landfill/food waste/recycling program.
 
Marketing/Communications Manager (1 Manager)
This position will require that you attend the monthly HSC meeting (in-person or virtually) and e-mail a synopsis of meeting discussions and decisions to all grade level parents, post meeting minutes on the Vallecito website and HSC Facebook page. Encourage all families to sign up for the Shutterfly Share site, HSC Facebook page and any other form of communication. Assist in communicating and promoting school events and activities via Friday Folder communications, Friday Principals e-newsletters, grade level email/e-newsletters, Facebook, etc., and coordinate messaging with the Display Case Manager. Organize an annual SurveyMonkey survey to take the pulse of the Vallecito community and share results with the HSC team.
 
Shutterfly/Volunteer Manager (1 Manager)
The Shutterfly/Communications Manager sets up and works with GLRs/Class Parents to help manage volunteer sign-ups for the bi-weekly drop-off lane, monthly teacher appreciation lunches, Rock a Thon volunteers, Field Day volunteers and any other events and activities that require volunteers and/or donations.
 
Walking School Bus (Need a Co-Chair)
A walking school bus is a group of children walking to school with one or more adults. Each day, designated adult(s) will meet and escort children to Vallecito (routes starts at Freitas/Montecillo and ends at the front entrance to Vallecito). We need volunteers to commit to a specific day for the entire school year (or find a replacement!).

 

Camp Kinda!

Check out this wonderful, free, summer opportunity for K-8 students!

 

Camp Kinda is a Virtual Summer Camp from some of the most innovative minds in online learning.  Camp Kinda will be available online for FREE from June 1st - September 1st to all families due to philanthropic support. It will provide approximately three to four hours of engaging content per day to families around the country.

Virtual Field Day: June 9th

We’re excited to announce that our school community will be participating in a Field Day event on Tuesday, June 9th! Field Day is an important tradition at our school. It is a significant day for our students and our staff, and we feel that in these incredibly challenging times this national event is a unique way that we can stay connected as a community and support one another in a fun and meaningful way.

Classroom teachers will share this information through their remote learning plans.


Online Registration for the 2020-2021

School Year is Open!

Online registration is now available on the Miller Creek School District website.  If you have an incoming student and need to complete registration, please visit the MCSD Registration page TODAY to download your forms. We are making important student enrollment decisions at this time and would appreciate your help in determining an accurate student count.  Please help spread the word to families with incoming Kindergarteners or people who are new to the neighborhood.

You do not need to complete this registration process if your child is already currently attending Vallecito.


 

Marin Counseling Collaborative

 

Marin Counseling Collaborative will be offering telehealth therapy sessions all summer. 

We all go through times when we need help sorting out life’s challenges. At the Marin Counseling Collaborative, we offer professional, skilled, and affordable psychotherapy to address the challenges that life can bring. 

The Marin Counseling Collaborative is a community counseling center and training program operated by Bay Area Community Resources, a notable non-profit organization providing services to Marin residents since 1975.
